La vie décousue

First there was the 105 year old vir­gin. Then the 99 year old vir­gin was revealed. Then mX prin­ted a story yes­ter­day about a 36 year old vir­gin. Oh come on, a 36 year old vir­gin is hardly news. I wouldn’t be sur­prised if there were quite a num­ber of men and women in their 30s who have never had sex. There wouldn’t be many people over 100 who could say the same, pos­sibly because there aren’t very many people over 100 any­way. On one hand I think it’s good for the world to hear that it’s not so uncom­mon for people to choose cel­ib­acy in single­ness (and mono­gamy in mar­riage), but I really am sick of hear­ing about this. Maybe we need to flood the media with so many of these stor­ies that it stops being news. I sup­pose art­icles like these are less harm­ful to soci­ety than a lot of other top­ics could be, but it sad­dens me to see how promis­cu­ous our soci­ety has become, to find stor­ies like these news-worthy.

About all I can say is that I guess the journ­al­ist used a spell checker.

I am sick of the lousy report­ing that passes for journ­al­ism these days, so I’ve decided to com­plain here. After all, what’s the point of hav­ing a blog if you don’t use it to whinge?

Well, I guess it’s good that they’re cor­rect­ing their own reports…
